An important part of leadership is both having a vision and sharing it with others. I alluded to my vision for Division C a little in my first post, but as concerns regarding the location of club officer training appear, I'd like to explain my vision more fully and invite you to share in it with me.
Part of my vision for Division C is to help us become more unified. Right now, many of our clubs operate very independently. They rarely think of the other clubs or the leadership. This is not a criticism; it is simply an observation. However, I do worry that working so independently will hurt clubs in the long run.
Clubs who interact with other clubs develop strong community support within the organization. Additionally, collaboration between clubs exposes clubs to practices that work best. This allows clubs to overcome/avoid internal challenges (such as low membership or low member retention) more easily. In addition, a strong community between clubs provides members with more opportunities for growing their communication and leadership. This is important because people tend to stay in Toastmasters longer when they believe that they are learning and growing.
As Division Director, I have a responsibility to help all our members, including you, learn as much as possible for as long as possible. One way to do this is by encouraging Division C clubs to think beyond themselves. This kind of thinking can be encouraged by providing clubs with opportunities for interacting with each other across the Division at events like officer training and the Area and Division contests.
This is why I wish to host only one officer training. I understand that traveling can be expensive and takes time, but the benefits of learning, working, and growing together are much greater. These benefits are an investment in the growth of our individual members, our clubs, our Areas, our Division, and Korea Toastmasters itself.
This is my vision for Division C. With this in mind, I hope that you will not only share in this vision with me but that you will also encourage and motivate your club members to participate in it as well. Overcoming time, distance, and expense isn't easy, but I truly believe that it is what's best for our clubs, Division, and District.
