Hello Division C!
I am so excited to begin this journey with you over the next year. As you might already know from visiting the "About" page, the purpose of this blog is to help our Division unite and grow our leadership and communication skills. Each week, I'll be uploading a new blog post. These posts will vary in content. Sometimes, I'll help you get to know other District leaders. Other times, I'll share tips and tricks for improving your club, improving your speaking, or improving your leadership. I'm also open to preparing posts that you request. Simply leave a comment letting me know what kind of content you're looking for, and I'll do my best to deliver. For this first entry, I want to introduce myself to you all and explain why I decided to run for Division C Director. I hope that this will help to give a face to your District leadership as well as demystify what your District leaders do. I am originally from the Northwest in the United States. The place that I am from is very much the countryside; there are only 25,000 people in my hometown. That's why Daejeon, to me, is a big city. I've been living and teaching English in Korea for five years now, and I love it! My husband and I plan to stay for several more years. To keep us company, we have two cats: Neptune and Juno. If you are interested, I will show you a picture of them some day. One of my favorite places in Korea is the noraebang (노래방). I absolutely love to sing and joined my first choir when I was in 3rd grade elementary school. I also enjoy reading (especially Harry Potter), swing dancing, and, of course, Toastmasters. I joined Toastmasters in March 2012 to help me improve my teaching. I had planned to improve my public speaking, but somehow, I ended up getting involved in leadership instead. I am so glad! I have learned a great deal about public speaking from my leadership positions, and my confidence is greater because of them as well. If any of you are thinking about leadership, I say, "Go for it!" Taking on leadership roles has been one of the most transformative and helpful experiences of my life. Yet the personal benefits to leadership are not why I decided to run for Division Director. I decided to run for this position because I saw--and see--potential in our Division: potential for leadership, potential for public speaking, potential for networking, and potential for friendship. To access this potential, we need to clarify the benefits of working together as a team, even when that means traveling for officer training (coming up July 18 in Daejeon), contests, club visits, or conferences. By working together, we can all become greater than we are now as individuals, clubs, Areas, and a Division. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my vision with you, and I look forward to you sharing your visions with me! |
